April 2, 2006 Aortic Surgery Symposium X, April 27 - 28, 2006 On April 27th and 28th, 2006, cardiothoracic surgeons from around the world will
gather in New York to focus on aortic surgery in the chest. This year is the 10th
session of the highly regarded Aortic Surgery Symposium, held every two years
in New York. The agenda this year is an exciting and hopeful one, for in the hands of these experts from around the world are current and future solutions for treating aortic disease in the chest. The first day consists of four sessions: two on the ascending aorta, including the aortic valve, and two sessions on the aortic arch. On the second day, topics include history and dissection, and descending and thoracoabdominal aneurysms. Click here to see the agenda in detail. I attended this conference in 2004, and it had a tremendous influence on me. Hope for thoracic aortic disease surrounded me there! The papers I had read as I searched for information about my husband's condition came to life during those two days, watching videos of aortic surgical technique. What happens in these highly techical moments is of profound importance. Through the sharing of advancements in surgical technique as well as exploring the challenges of thoracic aortic disease, more surgeons have the opportunity to learn and implement state-of-the-art, life-saving approaches. That is what happens at the Aortic Surgery Symposium. Our hope for continuously better patient and family experiences lies in the skill and courage of those who pioneer the trail of aortic disease . As they gather in New York at the end of this month, a twenty year milestone for this symposium, I know that we all are deeply grateful to them. May we gratefully remember this month those who pioneer the treatment of thoracic
aortic disease, creating a climate of hope.
